About me!

Hello! My name is Vannah Taylor, and this is my blog Siren Death Cult. I am a life-long horror fan, academic, writer and podcaster.

Welcome to my blog where I share my thoughts on all things horror. You can also find my writing in places such as Fangoria, MovieJawn, Offscreen Central, and JoBlo Horror Originals Youtube.

I hold a Master’s in Sociology and wrote my thesis on the evolution of rape-revenge narratives in horror.

My focus has been analyzing how these narratives have shifted through time within the context of which wave of feminism the film was released in and tracing the evolution of this “sub-genre” within broader societal contexts like periods of war (i.e. peaks in widespread, often televised, state-sanctioned sensationalized violence).

I currently co-host and produce my podcast, Rotten FM, along with Reyna Cervantes and Madison Fairchild. This podcast celebrates and combines our shared love of horror (with a focus on all things nasty, sleazy or subversive), with our love of music.

My other interests include gender in horror, queer theory, mind/body dualism, and so on… much of my film tastes and analytic interests rest in the Monstrous Feminine, psychological horror, and body horror (especially womb/gyno horror). I also love to lend my experience as a life long ballerina towards an ongoing analysis of the use of ballet/dance in the horror genre and the themes that filmmakers seem to be evoking when using ballet as a motif.

If you want to collaborate on a project, or simply discuss any of these riveting topics, you can find me online in the links below or just send me a message to say hi!

Join the cult…

XO.
